LOMO 70: five vintage lenses that cover 70 mm
A rare set arrives at our Saint-Denis warehouse: five LOMO lenses designed for Soviet cinema shot on 70 mm film, in LPL mount. Shoot large format with all the character of older glass.
Lenses designed for 70 mm
The LOMO 70s were designed in Leningrad by LOMO for Soviet cinema shot on 70 mm film. Computed for an image far larger than Super 35, they comfortably cover today’s full-frame and large-format (LF) sensors.
They keep all the character of older glass, with a look and bokeh no modern set will give you.
Five focal lengths, from 28 to 100 mm
28 mm at T4.5 (143 mm front diameter), 40 mm at T3.4, 56 mm at T3.2, 75 mm at T3 and 100 mm at T3.
From 40 to 100 mm, the lenses share the same 114 mm front diameter, so one matte box ring fits every lens. The complete kit weighs 13.8 kg.
With apertures from T3 to T4.5, these lenses need light: plan for it on interiors and night scenes.
Which camera?
Their LPL mount fits the ARRI ALEXA Mini LF and the ALEXA 35 from our fleet directly. On the Mini LF they cover the whole large-format sensor; on the ALEXA 35, in Super 35, you use the centre of their image.
Try them
Like any vintage set, each lens has its own personality. We recommend a camera test at our Saint-Denis warehouse before the shoot: the planning desk will book a slot for you on +33 1 77 14 82 68 or at planning@pleineimage-loc.com.
