Variable neutral density filter (variable ND), 82 mm in diameter: turning its ring adjusts the light reduction continuously, from 2 to 8 stops, with no need to change filters.
It lets you keep the desired aperture and shutter speed as the light changes, particularly on cameras and bodies without built-in ND filters. It screws onto the front of a lens with an 82 mm thread.
